What is the Price?

Scripture:  1 Corinthians 6:19-20  19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

When you hear the phrase “bought with a price” what goes through your head? Is it how much did it cost or what is it for, probably neither. I would submit that the normal thought after hearing this phrase would be “it was for me.” As Americans we take our salvation serious. In fact, we take it so serious that we are willing to devalue the cost that Jesus paid for it.

Bargain shopping is the American way; we want to dress nice, drive nice cars, live well and get anything that we can at a bargain. We do not want to pay full price for anything, and this is the same attitude that we have toward salvation. While salvation is a gift of God
(Eph. 2:8-9) there is a cost to getting it to others (Rom. 10:14-17), someone has to go. We do not seem to take this serious at all.

We have been called to love one another, and the greatest love is the Gospel. Salvation is much more than just saying a prayer and calling on Jesus. For Jesus says Himself that not everyone who calls on Him will go to Heaven(Matt. 7:21) but only those who do the will of the Father who is in Heaven.  Moreover, the will of the Father is true repentance, faith and obedience in Christ Jesus (John 6:40).

If we are truly born again, blood washed, lives changed Christians then we have been purchased with a price, and our lives are not our own (1 Co. 6:19-20). Although salvation is a gift, our response to the Gospel is an indication of if we have received it or not.

Jesus tells us If we wish to become His disciple (a follower) we must deny ourselves and take up our cross every day and follow Him (Luke 9:23-25).  What Jesus is saying is that when we follow Him, we will die to our earthly lives thus losing it, while gaining an eternal one with Him in Heaven. However, if we chose to keep our earthly lives, we will surely lose the eternal one with Him in Heaven.  We will lose our eternal lives with Jesus in Heaven because friends of the world are enemies of God (James 4:4-5).

Jesus paid the ultimate price for you and me when we did not deserve it (Rom. 5:8). Please understand, this price was not just paid for us but for everyone who will believe in Jesus and repent. So while our salvation cost use nothing, our disobedient to the Gospel might cost everything.

Prayer:  Lord I pray that everyone who calls themselves your child will truly believe that you have a purpose for each of us while here on earth. I Pray not only that they believe this but that you reveal it helping us to understand that our salvation is the result of the price that was paid.
